Closest To and Hole - In - One Contests Results from the Inaugural Tournament |
After a fine Barbeque Feast, with Great Burgers and Dogs, wonderful Salads and Snacks, and Beans, Beers, Booze, and Wines, the Closest To Contest began. |
The shot was one of about 50 yards, demanding, yet fair for all. The tool shed on the left came into play and was clobbered several times but no real damage. One shot ricocheted off the shed and ended up 17 feet from the pin, not good enough to win but close. Sorry Ruth. In the end, Cindy's shot of 9 feet 2 inches won the Women's Division. Joe took the Men's Division ending up just 10 inches from the pin. He pocketed the purse but then threw it into the Hole - In - One kitty. Cindy and Joe, grinnin' winners. |
The final event of the tournament was the Hole - In - One Contest. A motorcycle inner tube, painted white and floating in the pond, was the target. With a 30 inch hole to shoot at from about 80 yards, and a purse of $17.50, the tension was palpable, the excitement rampant. As each contestant took their shots, it appeared that someone could actually make the hole in one. |
Glenis actually came very close to scoring the first hole in one. By the looks on the faces of Bob, Bill, and Pat, (wonderfully captured by the tourney photographer, Karen) you know the shot was close. Her shot flew low off the tee, barely clearing the tall grass on the shoreline, and skipped, once, twice, three times, just missing the hole by a foot!! |
This shot by Denny, had the perfect distance. When he hit it, everybody knew it was right on line. On the way down, the ball was fading right just a little, right toward the hole. We thought it was in!! Just missed by inches!! After lots of ooh's and ahh's, and more fine shots, the purse remained incollected and will "carry over" to the next tourney, all $17.50 of it. |
Hey Monica!!! Did you have fun??? |
