Official Results: 9th Black Eagle Invitational Tourney
July 20th, 2008
Pictured below are the competitors and fore caddies and rules officials and those that would hold still long enough for a picture. What a group! And speaking of pictures, Angel, back row 1st on the left, took a ton of pictures and posted them. He has all your golf swings captured and some really good photos of the proceedings. I suggest you click right HERE and go check them out. And again, THANKS to everyone for coming and enjoying and making the tourney a success. And Angel, better luck next year. And speaking of next year, mark down July 19th, 2009 as the day set for the TENTH Annual Black Eagle Invitational.
Well, the 9th annual BEI Invitational is in the books. And again, it is all about eating, drinking, and laughing, especially at each other's "golf" swings. There were some great appetizers, tasty treats that disappeared almost as soon as they were put out. One really can't tell if it is a "warm up" or a "cool down" picture at the right but that's the whole point of the day. Things did get serious though, as the competitions heated up and old rivalries were reignited. The picture at the left may be a little prophetic as it was taken before the tourney started. It pictures (L toR) the 2006, the eventual '08 winner, and the 2007 winner, Angel, Joe and Steve.

Sidebar:
What is it about ROOKIES??? At left is a rookie named Vicki (the one with the hat and the big grin), very first time at the tourney. If you look at the results over there, you see her name quite often. The $17 for Long Drive was quite a story. All the women who entered had teed off except her, and NO ONE had hit the path. Vicki hit nine of her ten balls without getting one even close and her 8th and 9th shots were barely hit just trying to get one in play. Now, down to her last shot, and with a raucus crowd, the pressure was really on her. She clanks one toward the path and it bounces and rolls and looks like it's not even going to make it the 30 yards to the string. But it does and the ball crosses over the line by one foot! Well, the place went wild! And looking back over the years, half the wins were by rookies. Some had never even played the game before! But that is the beauty of the tourney - anybody can win.

Now these people at the right, are watching Angel take his shots at the Hole In One Prize. Way in the background, Joe is cooking cheeseburgers so he is not watching and just out of the picture is the spotter, with binoculars. Suddenly the place erupts and people start yelling, "It's in!". "Did it go in?" "It went in!" There was much yelling and cheering but some doubt. The spotter, looking through the bino's, said "I don't think it went in, it looked like it pushed the whole ring back." Looking through the binoculars you could see some damage to the ring, clearly on the outside of the ring. Nobody was really sure if it went in though, and Angel, ever the gentleman and true good sport that he is, was waiting for some confirmation, or at least some agreement that the ball was in.
As it turns out, what the spotter saw may have been correct. The two photos of the ring at the right show where the ball hit and took out a chunk. The close up at the far right with a golf ball held into the divot shows that the ball hit outside the ring. But could it have gone in? Hmmmm......
OHHHH SOOOO CLOSE
